About The Wiz

Join the characters of L. Frank Baum’s the Wizard of Oz in the Broadway smash musical version of this favorite tale. Dorothy, the little girl from Kansas is blown by a tornado into Munchkinland in the Land Of Oz. While there she meets the Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Cowardly Lion on the Yellow Brick Road. She defeats the evil witch and goes to see the powerful Wizard who turns out to be a phoney. However, the Wizard is able to convince Dorothy that she can do anything she wants if she just believes in herself. Along the way, Dorothy also realizes the importance of home and her family. A dazzling and funky musical set to a lively score combining rock, gospel and soul music, The Wiz includes such hit songs as “Ease on Down the Road”, “He’s the Wizard”, “Slide Some Oil to Me”, “Home”, “Everybody Rejoice”, and “If You Believe”. The Wiz is the winner of SEVEN Tony Awards on Broadway, including Best Musical and Best Musical Score,

Deborah Stimson Snow, Director, is Artistic Director for Village Productions and maintains a private voice studio in Blue Bell and Pottstown. She attended the Music Academy of West in Santa Barbara, received a Bachelors of Music from the University of Washington, and a Masters Degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Her vocal awards include first place in local and regional National Federation of Music Clubs competitions, first place in the New Jersey National Association of Teachers of Singing competition, and third place in the East Side Music Festival of Seattle. Ms. Stimson has performed numerous roles in operas, oratorios, and musicals, including most recently the role of Mrs. Lovett in Village Productions’ Sweeney Todd. In the opera arena, Ms. Snow’s experience includes directing and adapting Humperdink’s Hansel and Gretel, Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro and The Impresario, Menotti’s The Telephone, and numerous operatic scenes. Ms. Snow has directed a variety of Broadway musicals as well, including Side by Side by Sondheim, The Fantastics, Free to Be You and Me, Romance Romance, Oliver!, Quilters, and a Gershwin and Porter Review. Ms. Snow was Director of Music for the Unitarian Universalist Church of Delaware County and for the Media Chamber Chorale for many years. She also has conducted major choral works such as Faure’s Requiem, Dvorak’s Mass in D, Rachmaninoff’s Vespers, and Haydn’s Creation. She has also taught Music Appreciation and Piano at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.

Michelle Jones Wurtz, Choreographer, holds a BFA in Dance from the University of the Arts, and has also studied Russian Ballet at the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet.  She has danced professionally for twenty years and just completed a European tour, and has been featured in Dancer Magazine, Dance Spirit, Dance Teacher, and Philadelphia Magazine.  As a choreographer, her work has been presented at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival, the Independent Choreographers’ Exchange, Freedom Theatre, ContempraDance Theatre; and has received “Critic’s Pick” selections, Philadelphia Dance Alliance grants, and grants from the PA Council on the Arts. Her works have been seen in three major cities in Europe, and she was the first American instructor at the International Dance Festival in Ladek Zdroj, Poland, where she received an Honorary Degree in International Dance Studies.  Ms. Wurtz has taught extensively throughout the Tri-State area, including Temple University, Swarthmore College, and the University of the Arts; and her students have been accepted into Juilliard, Boston Ballet, and many dance professionally with touring companies including the Alvin Ailey Company and Momix.  Michelle is also a certified Pilates instructor and is currently studying to receive a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Non-Profit Management. She is Director of the Pottstown Dance Theatre, serves as Artistic Director for the Schuylkill Valley Regional Dance Company (SVRDC), Assistant Director of ContempraDance Theatre, as a panelist for the PA Council on the Arts Program Stream Grant, and is a member of the National Dance Critic’s Association.  Ms. Wurtz has been invited to teach in five major Dance Festivals in Europe.
