Core Classes
Beginning Improv (Grade 5 – 7)

Class Description: Explore
the wacky world of improvisation and comedy where students will enjoy
creating diverse characters, learning improvisation games, thinking
“on their feet”, performing with confidence, and working as
a team. Students will create a short example of their work which will
be presented on the last class of each session. Students are encouraged
to enroll for consecutive sessions to get the most out of this class.
This class is appropriate for new students and for returning students
to continue enhancing their skills.
Dance Steps for the Singer (Grade 5 – Adult)
Mon 5 – 6 pm; Tuition $95

Class Description:
If you can nail the singing and acting part of an audition but just
can't keep up with the dance steps; this is the class for you.
Beginning with the building blocks of most dance routines, this class
will focus on the type of moves that you are most likely to encounter
in a musical audition. It will help you maintain that fabulous stage
presence you have when you sing, instead of looking at your feet to
find out what they are doing. Bring those two left feet to class and
get them going in the right direction.
Acting I (Grade 5 – 7)

Class Description: Acting
I concentrates on beginning acting skills in a team environment such as
use of the voice and body as an expressive tool, stage presence,
breaking barriers and inhibitions, sensory understanding,
communication, creative movement, and focus skills (listening,
relaxation, observation), using a variety of fun approaches and themes.
Students will create a short example of their work, which will be
presented on the last class of the session. This class is appropriate
for students who are new to theater as well as those with experience or
returning for multiple sessions of Acting I to continue enhancing their
skills.
Acting II (Grade 5 – 7)

Fall Session: Sept 21 – Nov 16
Class Description:
Students in Acting II will extend upon basic concepts presented in
Acting I with emphasis on character development, script analysis, and
scene study. Students will be encouraged to explore the psychology and
motivations of characters and circumstances outside of their immediate
experience, and work on blocking, pacing, authenticity, and
relationships between the characters. The class will culminate in the
creation of a performance example which will be suitable for use as an
audition piece outside of the class. This class is appropriate for
students with a solid grounding in the dramatic arts, including
multiple sessions of Acting I or the equivalent, and those who wish to
work towards performance in community and professional settings beyond
the classroom. Students will create a short example of their work to be
presented the last week of the session. Students are encouraged to
return for multiple sessions to continue enhancing their skills.
Getting Ready to Sing (Grade 3 – 7)

Class Description: This
class focuses on early vocal technique and ear training for the
developing voice, and is perfect for young students with an interest in
private voice lessons in the future. The class covers singing, breath
control, expanding your range, developing your ear, diction, phrasing,
and song interpretation, with an emphasis on technique for the solo
voice. Students will create a short example of their work to be
presented the last week of the session. This class is appropriate for
new students and for returning students to continue enhancing their
skills.
Performance-Based Classes
Comedy Workshop (Grade 5 – 7)

Fall Session: Sept 22 – Nov 17
Class Description:
This class is designed for the actor with a passion for the art of
comedy who has a solid grounding in improv techniques. Students will
enhance their improvisation skills to master improv games and take part
in the creative process of writing sketch and improv segments. Students
should have the ability to listen and take direction, create diverse
characters, take risks and “think outside of the box”,
perform with confidence, work with a team. Prerequisite: Beginning
Improv with Instructor/Artistic Director recommendation or previous
extensive improv training and experience. Students will create an
example of their work which will be presented on the last day of each
session. This class is appropriate for new students and for returning
students to continue enhancing their skills.
Intermission Players Youth Theater Troupe (Grade 5 – 7)
Sun 1 – 3 pm; Tuition $185; Materials Fee $15

Fall Session: Sept 20 – Nov 15
Program Description: The
Intermission Players is a project-based performance troupe for our
young thespians in Grades 5 through 7, and is appropriate for those who
are new to theater as well as those with experience. No audition is
required to join the Intermission Players. Members are encouraged to
return for multiple sessions which will be scheduled throughout
the year. Members will have the opportunity to appear on-stage by
participating in the casting process, or may work backstage as part of
the production crew (e.g., stage manager, stage crew, props, scenery,
costumes, etc.), or both. At the end of each session,
the Intermission Youth Theater Troupe will perform their show for
their friends and family for a modest ticket price.

Audition Techniques (Grade 5 - 7)

Fall Session: Sept 26 – Nov 21
Class Description:
Do you feel you could be a good performer if you could just make it
through the audition? Improve your audition skills in a fun and safe
learning atmosphere. Audition Techniques is a workshop-based class
designed to give students the opportunity to practice the audition
process. Students will focus on audition etiquette, cold reading
skills, and the presentation of a prepared monologue. The students will
also develop interview skills including how to "read " the director and
how to ask questions that can ascertain the director's vision. Students
will learn to understand expectations and how to make appropriate
choices in a variety of circumstances. This class is appropriate for
students who are new to theater as well as those with experience or
returning for multiple sessions of Audition Techniques to continue
enhancing their skills.
